Leveling Up My Husband to the Max CH 37
“Madam..”
“Please hear me out at least. You have nothing to lose from hearing me out, is that not so, Your Excellency?”
Disapproval flooded Kalix’s face, but Amber didn’t give up, and though she was just his wife, maintained eye contact. This was for the good of all those who lived in the Eastern Lands, not just her.
She wasn’t a particularly kind person. Though she lived in the Eastern Lands for 10 years, she didn’t hold any affection towards it at all. In fact, she spent every day thinking that if hell existed, it would be the Eastern Lands. Just thinking of everyone who constantly harassed her like Grace and Bella was enough for Amber to ignore the desolation and famine.
‘But Jenia and the citizens have no fault.’?Amber recalled the sight of Jenia prostrating herself and begging to be taken in. She also remembered the citizens that she was in charge of whenever Kalix was away. The misery and powerlessness she felt at the sight of the bodies of those who couldn’t survive the harsh winter and starved to death in the mountains.?‘And my child.’
The child that would come to her, nine ?years from now, was a powerful force that kept Amber moving forward.
‘I have to ensure the strength of the Eastern lands to protect that child.’?She wouldn’t be able to protect her unborn child if the Eastern Lands remained lacking. It would be a problem to be powerful enough to be recognized as a threat to the empire, but it was also a problem to be weak enough to fall apart at first blow
The Eastern Lands had to be stable enough for Amber and her child to take refuge in a safe place.
“I am not trying to recover the lost precipitation.” Amber directed her words to the bewildered Kalix. His eyebrows flinched like he wasn’t expecting such a statement. “My goal is to find a method to produce enough food for the citizens to eat properly with even minimal rainfall.”
“We would have tried any such method if it existed already.”
Both Amber and Kalix weren’t wrong.
‘You do try it. Eight years later.’
Eight years later, the Eastern Lands were in such a terrible state that simply solving the food shortage wasn’t enough to save it from collapse.
‘And it’s a solution that requires a long period of time to implement.’?But since Amber had traveled back in time, she knew how to quickly solve the food shortage. It was the knowledge that a scholar of the mage’s tower learned after two years of trial and error.
“I have no doubts. Your Excellency, only a single invitation letter is needed.” Amber continued speaking, but Kalix was too stubborn.
“I can solve the problems of the Eastern Lands myself. There is no need for you to step forward, Madam.” Before she knew it, Kalix’s face was molded back to an expressionless state as he spoke in an inconsiderate tone.
For some strange reason, the more Amber claimed to be able to solve the food shortage, the more anxious and nervous Kalix seemed to be.
He was acting like it was extremely dangerous for Amber to take a single step out the castle.
“I’ll take care of it myself.”
Amber once again experienced the mile high wall between them that she had had enough of in her previous life.
‘I knew it, people never change.’?No matter how young he was, no matter how unexpected he acted, Kalix was still Kalix. His nature was to always ostracize and push Amber away. As if he was a phalanx of spearmen protecting and pushing away anything that came near.?‘Then there’s no need for me to be nice.’
In a siege battle, the attacking side that brought more forces would win.
The two gazed at each other intensely. The moment Kalix noticed something sparkly within Amber’s eyes, she spoke. “Your Excellency, why is it that you are trying to keep me locked up?”
